Three helicopters were hunting me, circling in the sky for an hour straight.
“Turn down your volume!” I yelled at ZW, who was playing Assassin’s Creed. We put out all lights and stood in front of the window. Light beams shone down from the choppers, pointing toward the freeway.
Broadcasting: “Come out with your hands up. This is the last warning. Force may be used against you.”
We looked at each other, then looked back down at the quiet court. There was no one outside. Only crickets were singing.
“Are they here for me? No. It can’t be. I am nobody.”
The helicopters hovered for another 10 minutes then flew away. They were not after me. On the local forum, some claimed that they were after armed thugs; others disagreed, saying that they were clearing encampments. I read through all the relevant comments that I could find. They were not after me, not this time at least. But I know that one day, I may become a thug, or homeless. I will hold my hands up and walk out of my encampment. The light cone blinds me – that is the end of my human mind.
